A natural death occurs in tiny bites and bruises and breakdowns.
It is a slow-as-molasses wearing away of the robustness of health and vigour;
an erosion of the physical state along a seemingly infinite continuum of
youth to old age. If you are fortunate enough to live to be elderly,
you will wear this attrition on your body in a variety of ways.
However old you are, promise yourself now that you will accept this
as gracefully as possible and stand tall in your evolution.
When I hit my 60th birthday this year I suddenly became more aware of my age and the wearing away of energy, robustness and vigour of my youth. In my mind I still feel young but all the old injuries and breaks and scars are making their presence known to me on a daily basis. I accept this invitation to transition with grace, wear the scars of youth with pride for lessons well learned, stand tall in the wisdom that I have gained and yet will continue to live my life to the fullest with joy, excitement and relentless curiosity and exploration.
Thanks Tim for the reminder!
Thanks for such an open and honest comment, Paul.
Evolution, hmmm, feels more like disintegration, but a good way to re-frame my thinking. I used to live on my bicycle until just a couple of years ago when I got a car and going to try riding it today and keep practising…can barely get my leg over the bar.that is how out-of-shape I have become.And the arthritis in my knee? Well, we shall see about that. Get the ice packs ready…
The perfect antidote!
Age catches up with us all if we’re lucky to live so long. Love your writing.
