The Luna moth emerges from its cocoon in the morning.
It takes two hours to prepare its wings for flight. Then it has seven days
to find a mate to produce the next generation.
And then it dies.
This hauntingly beautiful creature does not feed, having no mouth.
Its sole purpose is to continue the species;
that, and to grace us with its poignant existence.
this helps put things into proper perspective… thank you 🙂
And speaking of perspective, Alessandro, I loved the way you turned Rome on its ear today!
I have never seen a Luna moth–outside of Lunesta commercials. Your photo captures the wonder.
It was quite startling to come across them. They blend in perfectly.
Oops–just realized “it” was a “them” and what they were up too. Now I understand your words more fully.
Yes, I took my photo quickly and then left them to their romance!
exquisite-and a little sad.Thank you for bringing it to light.
It is a little sad.
